28. France. Patron, Kentish Town

We visited Patron on November 2023, but I’m only writing this in summer 2025, so my memory is a little hazy.

I used to live in France, for 18 months or so, and got told on a near-daily basis (I’m not exaggerating, or at least, not much) that French food was the best in the world, and English food was terrible. That wore a bit thin.

Unfortunately, there’s also a lot of truth in this annoying French conviction. The food at Patron, a lovely neighbourhood restaurant in Kentish Town, was delicious.

We got a startare of steak tartare and escargot, followed by duck confit and steak frites. Finished off with a crème brûlée and chocolate mousse and swilled down with some vin rouge.

Yes, the Frogs are irritating when it comes to their food pride, but with good reason. This was one of the best places we’ve eaten on our adventures – I can but recommend it.
